One-Pedal Off-Road Control for the BYD Shark 6

All Terrain X Mode is a purpose-built control module designed specifically to transform how the BYD Shark 6 behaves in off-road modes.

This production version introduces:

• True one-pedal driving in off-road vehicle modes

• Refined throttle and regenerative braking behaviour

• Smoother, more controlled low-speed driving

• Improved confidence in technical terrain

We are currently conducting pre-production testing of increased regenerative braking in X Mode for on-road use. This would mean increased regen based in normal driving mode. This functionality is experimental and is not confirmed for inclusion in any production release. Any potential implementation is subject to meeting all applicable Australian Design Rules (ADR) and regulatory requirements, including – without limitatio, requirements relating to brake lamp activation during periods of high regenerative braking. While the functionality is operating in a controlled test environment, further validation, compliance assessment are ongoing. If compliance can be satisfactorily achieved, this feature may be considered as a feature for production; however, no representation or guarantee is made that it will be released at this time.

X Mode does not increase torque, bypass limits or override any inverter or motor protections. All factory temperature, safety, and power protections remain fully controlled by the vehicle’s own systems. Instead, X Mode works by intelligently modifying how the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) communicates throttle position and CAN bus data to the motor inverters producing a uniquely controlled, predictable and confidence inspiring off-road driving experience. The additional unrestricted drive commands, stop the vehicle from pulling back torque commands and curve delivery when you need it most and works very well in conjunction with our revised traction control system. It also adds functionaility the Shark does not current have including full regeneration mode to minimise friction brake use off-road (down hills, long hills or short hills), to almost the point of not needing to ever touch the brake pedal at all, it also features a behaviour similar to crawl mode where the Shark will move only forward as slow as it can using negative torque this is actually a speed of ~1km/hr.

This is not about more power. It’s about better control with the features an off-road electric vehicle should have!

The remaining balance of $1,700 will be payable 3-4 weeks prior to shipment. This pre-order pricing includes a $300 discount off the regular price after pre-order ends.

Approximately 3-4 weeks before the expected dispatch of the production version, all pre-order customers will receive an email outlining the next steps to pay the balance of their pre-order. If you provide a phone number at checkout, our team will also follow up with a phone call within a few business days of this email. This communication will explain how and when the remaining balance must be paid by in order to retain your pre-order position and discount. You can at this point request to refund your pre-order if you have a change of mind.

Once pre-orders close, X Mode will be available at the full retail price of $2,200 (incl. GST) + shipping.

Pre-orders will close once we reach our controlled capacity limit, just as they did during the early adoption program. We do and will not oversell.

Preorder to Delivery Timelines

Version 1 production release is currently estimated for Q3 2026. While our initial target was Q2, we’ve adjusted the timeline to ensure we deliver early or on time—never on time or late against our own estimates.

Our delivery timeline is heavily influenced by feedback from our early adopters, who are actively testing the product in real-world conditions during Q1 and Q2 period of 2026. This feedback directly informs code refinements, the implementation of safeguards (if required) and overall product operation been simple, user friendly and logical, as well as the development of consumer documentation, the simplest possible installation process and our readiness to fully support the product at release for auto electricans who are installing for end users and directly with tech savvy end users who decide to self install.

How One-Pedal Off-Road Driving Works

In off-road modes, X Mode enables:

• Progressive drive as you apply the pedal

• Controlled regenerative braking as you lift off

• The ability to precisely balance the vehicle using a single pedal

This dramatically reduces reliance on brake modulation in technical terrain and makes steep descents, rock crawling and slow-speed manoeuvres far more intuitive.

Accelerator Pedal Modification (Recommended)

To fully unlock this experience, we recommend (but do not require) a simple accelerator pedal spring modification.

• First 50% of pedal travel: lighter spring (easy negative torque zone)

• Second 50%: firmer resistance (easy postitive torque zone)

• Normal pedal feel remains unchanged for on-road driving modes

When X Mode is switched off, the vehicle instantly returns to standard factory BYD behaviour in an instant.

Estimated cost for the modified pedal is expected to be $165.00 and you will be offered to add this to your order when paying for the pre-order in full prior to delivery.

Simple On / Off Control

All Terrain X Mode is controlled via a simple open/close switch:

• Open = X Mode OFF

• Closed = X Mode ACTIVE

You can mount this switch anywhere you like, or opt for our factory-style overhead switch panel for a clean OEM finish.

Installation is fully plug-and-play:

• No wire cutting

• No splicing

• Factory connectors only

• Completely reversible

The main module installs alongside the factory VCU and remains under the front passenger seat hidden once fitted.

Safety First – Road Use

At this stage:

• X Mode only operates in off-road modes in the early adoption program (and select pre-production users)

• It has no effect in road or towing modes, as of yet – we are working towards this, the limitation at this stage is brake lamp activation through factory computer. This limitation is intentional and safety-driven, it is likley in the future we will add road modes to increase regen for towing and hill management but it  is unlikley one-pedal driving will come to road modes, ordinary driving behaviour is expected in any road mode.

Installation difficulty is comparable to a dashcam install and interior trim routing. Initial installation time is around 1.5 – 2 hours when including overhead switch. Removal of X mode to factory only state, is under 30 minutes, if you are to leave overhead switch and wires behind trims in place.
